Athletic Update: Preparing for the Winter Sports Season

Wolf Nation,

We will be previewing the winter sports season next week, so be sure to check that out as we gear up for the start of competitions on December 7!  For now, please keep reading for important updates about Athletics.

Athlete Registration Forms Needed

Winter athletes who have not turned in the Athlete Registration Form should do so ASAP.  These forms allow us to submit mandatory PIAA eligibility lists for each season.  Please be sure to turn the forms in to the main office by Monday, December 3.

Message from the PAC

Did you know there is a way to get involved in SJCA athletics as a parent?

The Parent Athletic Committee is a fun, easy way for you to help your son or daughter’s team and all of the athletes at SJCA.  This growing group of parents meets once a month, has members that represent each sport and is open to anyone who wants to participate.  PAC organizes special events and volunteering opportunities and raises money for all of the athletic programs.  If you are interested in participating in this group, please feel free to come to one of the meetings, which occur on the second Thursday of every month from 6:30-7:30pm (the next meeting is on December 13 in room 204).

Additionally, please consider donating to the Back the Pack sponsorship program.

Finally, if you have any questions about the PAC’s initiatives in support of our athletic programs, please email us at PAC@stjoeacad.org

Fall Sports Surveys

Please take a few minutes to provide us with some valuable feedback about this year’s fall sports season.  These surveys are important to our improvement as an Athletic Department!  Thank you for your time and thoughtful responses!

Teacher Recognized as an Outstanding Educator

SJCA English teacher Laura Cunningham has been nominated as a Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics outstanding educator. Nine local educators were honored at the Nittany Lions’ Senior Day game vs. Maryland on November 24.

Head of School Jennifer Mallett notes that “Laura is enthusiastic and professional, yet very flexible.  She works with students in her roles at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy to spark their interest in English and Business Marketing…She is also an excellent role model for the students.” Mallett adds that Cunningham is “quick to volunteer for collaborative projects and has a keen interest in the workings of the school as a whole.  Quite frankly Laura is just a good person and deserves this recognition.”

Educator Appreciation Day honors and recognizes outstanding educators for their dedication and service to their local community. Nominees during the past two years have included teachers, principals, coaches, guidance counselors and many others that have a positive impact on education in their communities.

Congratulations to Laura Cunningham on this outstanding achievement! SJCA is proud to have dedicated teachers like Cunningham, who work hard to prepare students for success.

New Television Ads Highlight Four Pillars

SJCA is coming to a television screen near you! Four television spots will air over the next several months, highlighting each of the four pillars. Timed for Thanksgiving, the Service spot will kick off the campaign, following by Faith, which will air around Christmas. Leadership and Scholarship will follow as we approach Catholic Schools Week. Students, faculty and staff did a spectacular job during filming and we are excited to showcase them and our Four Pillars for the community.

Annual Gala a Great Success, Thanks to You!

Thank you to everyone who attended the Annual Gala, An Evening in Tuscany. Your generosity makes a difference every day for SJCA students! Special thanks again to our Gala Chair Liz Forstmeier and the members of our hardworking committee. It was a lovely and fun-filled evening, and we can’t wait to see you all next year! Stay tuned for this year’s photos and next year’s Save the Date!

Giving Thanks for our School Community

The faculty and staff of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy wish a happy and blessed Thanksgiving to all students and their families. Everyone at SJCA gives thanks for the generous support of the community. There will be no school from November 21 to 26; classes will resume on Tuesday, November 27.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Students Live Four Pillars During Enrichment Day

Students recently put the Four Pillars into action during the first Enrichment Day of the year! Enrichment Days offer students an opportunity to live out the Four Pillars—Faith, Scholarship, Leadership and Service—through full-day activities that are designed to give students learning experiences that go beyond the classroom. The freshmen grew in faith during a retreat at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. The sophomores braved the cold weather to serve at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center. The juniors took scholarship on the road with a trip to Washington D.C. The seniors honed leadership skills at Krislund Camp through a number of teambuilding activities. SJCA is proud to have students that dedicate themselves to putting the Four Pillars into action in every aspect of their lives.
