October will Bring Great things for the Wolves

 by STJ_Admin

Wolf Nation,

October is here, and it is a great time for fall sports! October means that it’s time for our annual Pink Out Girls Volleyball game (Tonight, October 3 at 5:30 p.m.); it is also playoff time for golf, homecoming week and time for all the other teams to prep for their postseasons.  Our student athletes appreciate all the community support they’ve received this fall.  Keep reading for more ways to support our student athletes!

Homecoming Week (October 10 – 12)

The Athletics Department wants to see everyone out at the competitions this week.  Student athletes will be coming out to support their fellow athletes for a “Support the Sports” initiative, and they would love to see all of Wolf Nation out in full force for this week’s match-ups.  Please see the schedule below, and plan to come out for homecoming 2018!

  • Wednesday, October 10 – Girls Soccer vs. Norther Cambria at 3 p.m.
    • Orchard Park
  • Wednesday, October 10 – Boys Soccer vs. Northern Cambria at 4:30 p.m.
    • Orchard Park
  • Wednesday, October 10 – Girls Volleyball vs. Williamsburg at 6 p.m.
    • Student Life Center
  • Thursday, October 11 – Cross Country vs. Grier, EJHS, WBHS, and P-OHS at 4:30 p.m.
    • Oak Hall Park

If you haven’t done so, please consider donating to the Athletic Department and sign-up to volunteer at home events to help with concessions and gate.

Parent Athletic Committee (PAC) Meeting

All parents are welcome!  We would like to see as many parents as possible at the next PAC meeting on Thursday, October 11 at 6 p.m. in Room 204.  Come help generate ideas and see how you can help support our athletic programs!

Mandatory Winter Sports Meeting

On October 30 at 6 p.m. in the Student Life Center, the Athletic Department will hold its annual winter sports meeting.  This meeting is mandatory for ALL families with a student athlete wishing to participate in a winter sport.  Please plan to attend.  We will meet as a group and then break into team-specific meetings.

As always, please contact Chad Walsh (cwalsh@stjoeacad.org) if you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding SJCA Athletics.

Boys Soccer

The boys have been off for a while but will be back in action at home this Thursday against Jersey Shore at 4 p.m. They are also playing Belleville Mennonite in an away game this Saturday. They would love your support!

Girls Soccer

The girls beat Bishop Carroll on Thursday by a score of 4-1 with goals by Clare Marsh and Meg Bolich. Adrianna Fegley, Riley Marflak and Meg Bolich made assists. They also played Northumberland Valley in an away game on Monday. After being down 4-0 in the first half, they scored three unanswered goals, (all by Clare Marsh) but still fell 5-3. Yesterday, they played an away game against Troy.

Last Thursday the boys kicked off postseason play with a bang at Sectionals at Summit Country Club. They beat their next best opponent by 33 strokes and were led by Jack Mangene and Matt Steyers with two 76s. RJ Marsh and Ryan Peachey also posted great scores of 81. On Monday the boys took their momentum into Districts, beating their next best opponent by 35 strokes. The boys were led by Senior Jack Mangene with a 72. Jack was the individual district champion, the third one in Saint Joseph’s history. Congrats Jack!

The boys will head to Ebensburg Country Club to play Rockwood in their Sub-Regional next Wednesday, October 10. Good Luck Boys! Jack Mangene and Matt Steyers will also be playing in the Individual Regional on October 15 in Indiana, PA.

Girls Volleyball

This past Monday, the girls swept Grier School in 3 sets in just under an hour! Yesterday, the girls competed against Juniata in their annual Pink Out Game.  JV starts at 5:30 p.m., with Varsity to follow. Proceeds will be donated to Pink Zone!

Cross Country

Last weekend the team ran at the Carlisle Invitational.  There was a lot of good competition to race against in preparation for Districts and States.  They will be running again this weekend at the Ridgeway Invitational. The girls will race first at 10:00 a.m. followed by the boys at 10:45 a.m.
