Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy Students Recognized by National Merit Scholarship Program

Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy is excited to announce that seniors Jason Thomas and Garrett Gall have been recognized by the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarship is one of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy four pillars, and we are proud that Thomas and Gall are exemplifying it.

Thomas is a program Semifinalist, placing him in a pool of students representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. Gall was named a Commended Student; Head of School Ms. Jennifer Mallett explains that this achievement places Gall among the 34,000 high school students receiving recognition for exceptional academic promise.

High school students across the country are entered into the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Over 1.6 million juniors in about 22,000 high schools entered the program.

“These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation,” said a spokesperson for National Merit Scholarship Corporation. “We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

Thomas and Gall both credit Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy as a key factor in their success.

“I can accredit my academic success to my parents, as well as to the teachers at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy, who genuinely care about the success of every student,” said Gall. “SJCA has also helped me to develop a strong work ethic, and has surrounded me with peers who are respectful and supportive of each other, inside and outside the classroom.”

Thomas noted, “Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy has helped me so much… I have had great teachers throughout my high school career who pushed me to be the best student I could be. Their efforts helped create the student that I am today.”

Both students plan to attend a four-year university to study engineering.
