Faith Formation

Faith Formation

At Saint Joseph Catholic Academy, we believe Christ is the reason for this school;  therefore, we are called to be visible signs of the Gospel message in our daily lives. Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy welcomes students of all faiths!

Catholic education teaches faith, scholarship, leadership, and service.  Faith formation is a collaboration between school, family and community, instruction and assessment must provide for the diverse needs and abilities of all students, and continuous improvement through research, ongoing education, and implementation of the best practices.

Below summarizes the school's faith formation opportunities.  For more information, contact the school office or Mr. Nick Astle, Theology Teacher and Director of Campus Ministry, at nastle@sjcacademy.org.

Theology Curriculum

The Saint Joseph Catholic Academy Theology curriculum is grounded in the teachings of the Catholic Church. Saint Joe's students must complete two courses (.5 credits each) in religious studies during each of their four years. This sequence of courses may vary.

Topics include:

  • Hebrew Scriptures, Christian Scripture
  • The Paschal Mystery, Stewardship, Sacraments
  • World Religions, Church History
  • Catholic Morality, Vocations, Christian Lifestyle

Mass and Devotions

One of the most overt examples of Saint Joe's commitment to faith formation is our weekly, school-sponsored Mass. Students also participate in one Saint Joseph Catholic Academy retreat each academic year.  Students have the opportunity attend/participate in special religious services offered according to the liturgical calendar, including penance services, Rosary, and other devotional services.

Chapel

Students participate in the delivery of weekly chapel services. These services consist of prayer, liturgical readings, song, and reflection. Chapel services are held in conjunction with the Theology program.
